For our project, we decided to make a yearbook so that we can remember the enjoyable time we had together. We also wanted to remember all of the friends we met during the program. In the following paragraphs, I will describe the leadership skills we developed, how the project empowers the community and how it helps fight stereotypes.

In order to make a good yearbook, we needed to use our leadership skill. First, we outlined the section of the yearbook as a team. Next, we assigned jobs to each of the group members. In our group, every member contributed to the project. Some members took pictures, while some did profiles or worked on other section in the yearbook. When we have all of our sections completed, we put together all of the parts. This helped us strengthen our leadership skills. We were able to develop our planning skills and our organization skills. These skills, along with teamwork, are important to leaders.

This project empowers the community. When people see our yearbook, they will notice that even though we are all different we can still work together as a team and become friends. Most of us have never seen each other before. During the program, we were able to meet other people and make friends with them. In the yearbook, we have a few pages of collages. In these collages, people will see us making friends with one another.

Finally, this project helps fight stereotypes. People usually think of Asians as nerds who listen to classical music and study all the time. However, our yearbook pictures show that each of us is unique. We wear different clothes and have different hobbies. For example, some of the participants in the program like rap music while some like other types of music. Also, the yearbook shows that we like to visit new places and meet new people instead of studying all the time. During the program, we were able to take several field trips. These field trips were exciting and we got to meet some interesting speakers. After participating on this program, we realize that we all have our differences and should not be fitted into stereotypes. Therefore, our group decided to title our yearbook, “Breaking the Stereotype.”

We enjoyed making this project and we hope that the other participants like it.
