ESSAY CONTEST GUIDELINES:
1. Essay must fit the theme.
2. Essay must be no longer than 1,000 words. It must be on an 8.5”-by-11” sheet of white paper.
3. Write or type your essay. Pencil-written essays will not be considered.
4. Entry must include the student’s name, address, phone number, e-mail address, school name, grade level and date of birth on the back of the essay.
5. Essays must be original; plagiarism will result in disqualification.
6. Only one entry per student.
7. All submitted entries will become the property of the Northwest Asian Weekly Foundation and will not be returned.
8. Completed essays must be received by Feb. 26, 2007.
9. Winners’ essays will be printed in the award ceremony’s program booklet.

JUDGING:
A board of judges will review the essays and identify the finalists. Winners will be selected from the group of finalists.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
Students ages 12-18 are eligible to enter the contest.
The contest will be separated into two categories:
ages 12-14 and ages 15-18. Past winners are
not eligible to enter.

PRIZES:
All participants who attend the award ceremony will receive a certificate of merit. First-, second- and third-place winners in each age group will receive additional prizes at the Rainbow Bookfest on April 28, 2007. Winning students who cannot attend the award ceremony may send a representative.

Participating in this essay, or any competition, is one way to build up your RESUME in your diligent pursuit of better opportunities to achieve your dreams.
