Scholarship available for Washington students who are young entrepreneurs

Since 2003, the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB)’s Young Entrepreneur Foundation (YEF) has awarded 2,095 scholarships to graduating high school seniors totaling $2,382,000. The NFIB Young Entrepreneur Awards program was established to raise awareness among the nation’s youth about the critical role that private enterprise and entrepreneurship play in the building of America.

Seven who were adopted from overseas get their citizenship papers tomorrow

Social Security benefits increases 3.6 percent for 2012

The Social Security Administration announced on Nov. 1 that monthly Social Security benefits will increase 3.6 percent in 2012. This cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) is the first since 2009.

Beacon Hill extension of Mountains-to-Sound trail system now open

On Oct. 29, a new multi-purpose trail on Beacon Hill was opened. The 12-foot wide, paved trail connects the I-90 trail at the south end of the Jose Rizal Bridge (12th Avenue South) with Holgate Street in Seattle’s SODO area.

Calif. gov. signs bill on accurate info gathering on AAPIs

  Assembly Bill (AB) 1088 requires two key state agencies to include the full spectrum of Asian American (AA) ethnicities, as well as Native Hawaiian and other Pacific Islander (NHOPI) ethnicities, in their data collection, consistent with the groups reported by the U.S. Census.

Thai Association of Washington asks for donations to help victims of Thailand flood

Flooding in Thailand since July has resulted in the death of more than 300 people and has caused billions of dollars worth of damage. About 61 of the country’s 77 provinces (including Bangkok) have been affected so far. More than eight million people have been impacted.
