‘The Chairman’ visits Seattle to host charity event

Acclaimed movie actor and host of the Food Network’s “Iron Chef America” Mark Dacascos was the host at the Wing Luke Asian Museum’s Year of New Beginnings Dinner and Auction. The event took place on April 4 at the Bell Harbor International Conference Center.

It featured local chefs Gerold Castro of Kawali Grill, Gian Jaswal of India Bistro, Alex Nguyen of Saigon Bistro, Alan Quan of Four Seas, Christina Scholz of ATA Farms, and Rachel Yang of Joule.

Mr. Design Guru: Vern Yip’s path to TV full of happy detours

In memory of Terri Jamero, community advocate

Teresa “Terri” Elizabeth Romero Jamero, 74, a second generation Filipino and Northern California native, died April 2 after a lengthy illness in a Modesto hospital near her home in Atwater, Calif.

Many who knew Terri Jamero considered her to be the conscience of the Filipino American National Historical Society (FANHS). She served in the organization’s president’s cabinet (1984–1985), as the national treasurer (1984–1988), and as the national vice president (1988–1990). She also served two terms as the national president (1990–1994).

Making beautiful music

On March 29, Northwest Vietnamese and Vietnamese American singers participated in a national singing contest called Giong Ca Vang (Golden Voice). Most contestants sang in Vietnamese. The semifinals were held at the Emerald Queen Casino. The event was helmed by Saigon Broadcasting Television Network and sponsored by Comcast.

Scholastic achievement: Thu Nhat Ma
