Tara I. Martin-Chen, from Garfield High School, and Anthony L. Bencivengo, from Nathan Hale High School, have each been awarded $2,500 National Merit Scholarships.

The two students join about 2,500 distinguished high school seniors who were chosen from more than 15,000 finalists nationwide. These scholarship winners, selected by a committee of college admissions officers and high school counselors, distinguished themselves as having “the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills, and potential for success in rigorous college studies.”

Bencivengo’s interest is in the field of playwriting, and Martin-Chen listed her likely career field as international relations. (end)
