Applications open for Judo fund

Applications are now open for the Women’s Sports Foundation’s 2013 Rusty Kanokogi Fund for the Advancement of U.S. Judo.

Notable recipients of the grant include Olympic Gold medalist Kayla Horrison, who received a grant three years ago.

To be eligible to receive a grant, an applicant must be a U.S. citizen or legal resident and must be eligible to compete for a U.S. national team. Applicants are judged on financial need, present and potential level and ranking, lack of support from traditional sources, role of the award in continued participation and advancement, and potential impact on advancing women in sports and contribution to greater visibility of female athletes. Priority is given to applicants who demonstrate a plan to repay the grant in the future, whether financially or through otherwise contributing to women’s sports. A total of $5,000 will be distributed in 2013. The deadline for application is Thursday, Jan. 31. (end)
