ISRD election date announced, November 20

The annual election for the International Special Review District (ISRD) Board will take place at the Bush Asia Hotel, in the IDEA Space meeting room, on Tuesday, Nov. 20 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. There are two positions open this year: one for a business person, property owner, or employee and one at-large position.

Formed in 1973, the board preserves, protects, and enhances the cultural, economic, and historical qualities of the area, in particular its unique Asian character. To do this, the ISRD Board reviews and approves all uses, including sidewalks, new construction, and changes to building exteriors within the International District, such as new signage or paint before the work is done.

In order to vote on Nov. 20, voters must be registered a minimum of 30 days prior to the election. Once registered, voters do not need to register again unless they have moved or their voter category has changed.

The board consists of seven members, five elected by the community and two appointed by the mayor. Board members serve two-year terms and meet at 4:30 p.m. the second and fourth Thursdays of each month at the Bush Asia Hotel. (end)

Additional information about the ISRD can be found at www.seattle.gov/neighborhoods/preservation/id.htm.
