BLOG: Where were the Asians at the RNC?

By Assunta Ng

While the mainstream media are crying out loud that Blacks were not represented at the Republic National Convention in Florida, I have my own valid complaint. Asian Americans were also scarce and hard to spot in the sea of white Republicans.

I tried to switch to several different channels, hunting for the sight of a familiar face. I changed channels so many times, and yet I only caught a quick glimpse of one Asian American. That was it. Many Asian Americans belong to the Republican Party, so why aren’t they represented as delegates? The Asian community has been integral in helping raise money for Republican candidates. Why don’t they include us in their power circle?

Perhaps, Asian Americans have been too nice, only giving and never demanding anything in return. Next time, it’s imperative to ask for something. Ask, and you shall receive. (end)
