Mayumi Nakamura, CEO of the Pacific Software Publishing, Inc., started the 2012 Summer Experience to help children who were severely affected by the 2011 Japanese earthquake and tsunami. The goal of the project is to create positive memories for children from the Tohoku region in the wake of the tragedy.

Eight junior high students were invited to stay with host families during a visit to Washington state. The students participating in the program each lost one or more parents in the disaster. Students spent their mornings attending English lessons at Bellevue’s Children Academy.

They toured Seattle with their host family for the rest of the day, visiting the Pacifi c Science Center’s Tutankhamen exhibit, attending a Mariners game, seeing Mt. Rainier, and more.

They also visited local businesses like Boeing and Microsoft and were gifted an Xbox as a gift from the Xbox team. (end)
