Citizens’ Election Oversight Committee seeks two representatives for the Chinese and Vietnamese communities

The King County Council’s Citizens’ Election Oversight Committee (CEOC) is looking to fill two seats in its organization to represent the Chinese and Vietnamese-speaking communities.

These seats will help ensure that election materials in Chinese and Vietnamese languages are accurate and consistently available to members of these communities.

The King County Council established the CEOC in 2006 to monitor county elections and recommend improvements to the performance and accountability of King County Elections. The committee has always had a seat for a representative of the Chinese-speaking community.

The 2010 Census led to a new requirement that the committee offers materials published in Vietnamese. This opens an opportunity for the committee to offer a seat to a representative of the Vietnamese-speaking community. Like the representative for the Chinese-speaking community, the Vietnamese representative will monitor the accuracy and availability of ballots and voting materials for the Vietnamese-speaking community. Currently, the CEOC is encouraging qualified individuals to apply for the two vacant seats. (end)

Interested applicants may contact the CEOC office at bob.ferguson@kingcounty.gov or 206-296-1001. They may also contact their representative on the King County Council.
