U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and the U.S. Department of Education awarded $3.95 million to the Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institutions (AANAPISIs) program.
With AANAPISIs being fairly new to the higher education system under the “minority-serving institutions” designation, access to this level of federal support is critical for increasing opportunities for AAPI students who are not gaining access to higher education or who may be affected by the high rate of attrition during college.
In 2008 (Title IV, degree-granting institutions, fall enrollment), there were 1,157,665 AAPI students (534,755 men and 622,910 women). (end)
