BLOG: No mooncakes for festival

By Assunta Ng
Northwest Asian Weekly

Sept. 12 was the mid-autumn festival. According to Chinese culture, we are supposed to celebrate the occasion on a beautiful full moon night with mooncakes.

Strange, not one of the 11 participants brought mooncakes to the Northwest Asian Weekly’s delicious potluck lunch. It didn’t even occur to me that I should eat some.

And I did not receive boxes of moon cakes as gifts this year.

Perhaps, it’s the economy. I did get quite a few boxes during the past festivals.

When Uwajimaya offered half-price mooncakes after the festival, I bought a box. They tasted even better knowing that they cost much less. (end)
