Dr. Van Vuong is offering a significant discount on dental services in order to assist people who need dental care, in tandem with helping his community food pantry.
Vuong is looking to assist the people in his community who have lost their dental coverage due to job loss by offering dental services at a fraction of his normal rate. For $39, patients will receive oral examinations, x-rays, and dental cleanings, with all proceeds going to the Multi-Service Center Federal Way Food Bank.
Vuong was inspired toward this community effort after reading a report in the New York Times about how an increasing number of Americans are going hungry.
He notes that many of these people have also lost their dental coverage and are, therefore, going without preventative dental care, which puts them in danger of tooth decay and gum disease and contributes to problems associated with diabetes, liver, and heart disease, in addition to the associated risk of premature and stillborn babies in pregnant women.
“I want to do my part to ensure that Americans stay healthy and to help those who are going hungry by sponsoring this food drive for the residents of our community,” explained Vuong. He elaborates further by saying $39 will improve a person’s dental health and feed two families at the same time.
“In a troubled economy that affects many Americans, the spirit of giving to others is needed more than ever. The more people who know about this effort, the more needy families can receive aid.”
The community discount to benefit people in need of health care, as well as the local food bank, will remain in effect until Sept. 30. (end)
