May 20: NWAW reporters earns four SPJ awards

At an awards banquet at Safeco Field, the Western Washington chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists presented its Excellence in Journalism Awards. Northwest Asian Weekly earned four in its alternative weeklies division.

— Mark Lee got first place for his column, “You talkin’ to me?” in the editorial and commentary category.

— Vivian Luu got second place for her story, “Pearls of wisdom from Shanghai Pearl,” in the arts reporting category.

— Jason Cruz got third place for his story, “Medical tourism: the next reform in health care?” in the health reporting category.

— Tiffany Ran got third place for her story, “Will school board member step down due to controversial e-mail?” in the education reporting category. ♦
