May 15: Seattle Chinese Garden hosts open house, celebrates first courtyard completion

Washington, Seattle, Bellevue, South Seattle Community College, and Chinese officials cut the ribbon at the Seattle Chinese Garden open house.

The Seattle Chinese Garden, which is at South Seattle Community College (SSCC), held a public open house to celebrate the completion of the garden’s first courtyard, named Knowing the Spring. Ling Yueming, vice mayor of Seattle’s sister city Chongqing, along with Rep. Jim McDermott, Attorney General Rob McKenna, Bellevue Deputy Mayor Conrad L, and SSCC President Gary Oertli, Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn, and others attended.

A lion dance opened the celebration, which included martial arts and traditional Chinese dance performances. More than 500 people attended the public ceremony and public tour. ♦
