March 19: SeattleJapanRelief organizations hold gathering to raise money for Japan

SeattleJapanRelief, a collaboration of Japanese American and Japanese organizations, held a special ceremony at Seattle Center’s Kobe Bell and north lawn. Short remarks were given by Consul General Kiyokazu Ota, Gov. Chris Gregoire, Congressman Jim McDermott, and Seattle Deputy Mayor Darryl Smith.

More than 400 people attended. On the day of the event, $5,000 was raised. Since then, SeattleJapanRelief.org has brought in more than $115,000 for Peace Winds America, The Red Cross, and YMCA. ♦
