Blog: Goodbye, Todai

Last Sunday, I was surprised to find Todai Sushi Buffet Restaurant inside the Pacific Place Mall closed. It was officially closed on Jan. 2.

Neighboring restaurants were shocked because there was nothing on the door explaining why it closed or thanking customers. No one from the restaurant said anything. It simply disappeared.

A non-Asian restaurant called Pink will open soon in its place.

Todai opened in 2003 and was hailed as a nice addition to Seattle’s downtown.

According to the Pacific Place leasing office, the Todai restaurant franchise, consisting of two restaurants in Washington state, in Seattle and Redmond, went out of business.

When I asked if Pacific Place’s management knew about Todai’s decision to close, a staff member vaguely answered, “Yes and no.”

Started by Koreans, Todai is an international franchise chain, with locations all over the United States, Korea, China, and Hong Kong. ♦
