This year, the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) awarded former Northwest Asian Weekly (NWAW) Editor Eleanor Lee for her excellent writing in Northwest Asian Weekly’s editorial section. Lee placed third in the opinion category and received her award on May 30 at the Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue.

In the Washington Newspaper Publishers Association (WNPA) contest, NWAW reporter Nina Huang placed third for her story, “Fate brought them together voluntarily — to make music,” in the Best Story in the Arts category.

NWAW layout editor and graphic designer Han Bui won two awards: first place in web design and third place in advertisement.

The WNPA awards took place at the Red Lion Hotel in Olympia on Oct. 1. ♦
