Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley and Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown appointed Edward Chow, Jr. to head the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Chow was sworn in at a ceremony held in the governor’s reception room at the state house. He is the first Asian–Pacific American Cabinet Secretary in the O’Malley–Brown administration. Chow has previously served as director of Emergency Services for Washington state and as city administrator for the city of Kent. ♦
