Secretary Locke announces $4 million grant aimed at creating more Seattle jobs

On Sept. 17, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke announced a $4 million dollar Economic Development Administration (EDA) grant to South Seattle Community College.

This grant will help build a Leadership in Environment and Energy Design (LEED) silver-certified jobs training facility at the Puget Sound Industrial Excellence Center. The project is estimated to create 405 jobs and generate $50 million in private investment.

“The Obama administration is committed to creating jobs, encouraging innovation, and improving our nation’s economic competitiveness,” Locke said. “This grant will help establish a jobs training facility that will provide workers with the skills needed to compete for jobs in the green manufacturing and international trade sectors.”

EDA is an agency within the U.S. Department of Commerce that supports the economic development needs of distressed communities throughout the United States.
