The other week, I dined with more than 20 members of a women’s organization in a West Seattle home. KING TV anchor Jean Erensen and KOMO TV anchor Kathi Goertzen were present.

I last saw them in March at the YWCA annual luncheon (both are great YWCA supporters). At a public event with nearly 2,000 attendees, it was impossible to get close to these two popular faces.
This was a rare treat to spend time with them individually.
You might already know that Kathi battled tumors that had grown behind her ears and squeezed her nerves, which caused her speech to slur. She recently underwent surgery and looks pretty good to me. She may still speak be a little slow, but her voice is clear. Kathi has been off the air recovering, working only on special projects for KOMO. She recently flew to Italy to cover University of Washington student Amanda Knox’s murder trial.
Kathi was in good spirits when she was with old friends. Contrary to the public perception of Kathi and Jean as rivals, they are gracious and kind toward one another. They talked for a long time that night.
“We are pretty good pals,” Jean once said in an event, referring to Kathi.
