We lost one city councilman of color but gained another. We turned out in great numbers for causes we believe in. We celebrated when Asian Americans achieved positions of power, but shuddered when they committed atrocities we feared would create a backlash.

It was a great year for arts and entertainment. We were thrilled to have the chance to interview renowned film director Ang Lee. And while shows like “The Apprentice” and “Dancing With the Stars” might seem frivolous alongside harder news stories, the high-profile increase of Asian Americans in popular culture is anything but superficial.
