Kristi Yamaguchi, the former Olympic gold medalist in figure skating, won the first round of ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” March 18 with a score of 27 out of a perfect 30 for her foxtrot. Yamaguchi is the show’s third contestant of Asian descent. Actress Tia Carrere performed in season two and Olympic gold medalist in speed skating Apolo Ohno was the winner of season four.

It has been 16 years since the Japanese American mother of two skated professionally, but her performance showed she hasn’t lost any of her athleticism or grace.
