Dr. Cassandra Manuelito-Kerkvliet

Diversity at the top

Top Contributors to the Asian Community

“It’s been a great fit for me here at Antioch. I think part of what makes it easy for me is my counseling background; I’m very willing to listen and be collaborative. I think it’s also easier for me to put these issues out there because of my background, to say, let’s form and let’s storm and let’s do what we have to do to take diversity seriously.

I have to be really careful in this position that I don’t only elevate Native American issues. Because I’m about issues, not only for people of color, but also for the silent minority, the diversities we don’t see. Maybe there’s a disability we don’t recognize but they’re a group of people that are disenfranchised.” — Dr. Cassandra Manuelito-Kerkvliet, President of Antioch University Seattle.

Dr. Cassandra Manuelito-Kerkvliet is one of the six honorees of the Northwest Asian Weekly’s Top Contributors to the Asian Community. A dinner and awards ceremony will be held Dec. 7 at China Harbor restaurant, 2040 Westlake Ave. N., Seattle. For more information, e-mail info@nwasianweekly.com.
